QMI Master's Degree

The QMI M1

As a complement to the M2, a QMI M1 (Master's first year) will open at IP Paris in the Fall of 2026. A major goal of this M1 is to provide you with the necessary foundations to tackle the M2, in particular in what concerns mathematical tools, classical information theory, classical complexity theory, etc. The M1 also includes first courses in quantum information, as well as a final research internship, a first opportunity to engage with quantum research, in an academic or industrial lab.

List of M1 courses

20 ECTS have to be validated in each period.

First period

Mandatory course:

Quantum Information and Computing: Foundations (5 ECTS).

Available courses:

Advanced Algorithmics (5 ECTS);
Computational Logic: from Artificial Intelligence to Zero Bugs (5 ECTS);
Deep Learning (5 ECTS);
Introduction to Cryptology (5 ECTS);
Computer Architecture and Operating Systems (5 ECTS);
Information Theory (5 ECTS);
Distributed Data Structures, with a Spotlight on Blockchains (5 ECTS);
Finite Algebraic Structures (2.5 ECTS);
Algorithms for Algebra (2.5 ECTS).

Available research project:

Quantum Computer Science Project (5 ECTS).

Second period

At least two courses have to be taken among:

Advanced topics in quantum computation and information (5 ECTS).
Quantum Diagrams and Programs (5 ECTS).
Mathematical modelling of quantum computers (5 ECTS).
Quantum information : entanglement, control and platforms for quantum technologies (5 ECTS).

Other available courses:

Parallel and Distributed Algorithms (5 ECTS);
Compilation (5 ECTS);
Advanced Cryptology (5 ECTS);
Introduction to algebraic curves (2.5 ECTS);
Algorithms for arithmetics (2.5 ECTS).

Available research project:

Quantum Computer Science Project (5 ECTS).

Third period

The third period is dedicated to a mandatory research internship, worth 20 ECTS.
